With widespread surprise at the choice of Harriet Miers for Supreme Court, pundits have been speculating as to why the President would make such and unexpected choice. Here is one theory :
George Bush chose Harriet Miers to appease Laura after she caught him drinking.
Here's why I think this is possible ....
1.
National Enquirer Story reports Bush was caught by his wife drinking. Perhaps not the most reliable publication but they have had a history of being correct on unusual topics such as this.
2. The Right wing reaction to drinking story The talk radio consensus was not denial and attack. It was understanding "With all the problems he is facing I can understand if he is drinking". That seemed bizarre to me and may tip off that they know the story has some merit.
3.Laura Bush She wanted a woman on the court and made that well known. She adores Harriet Miers. Hmmm. A husband always like to please his wife but if she is angry at him - a man will do almost anything to make peace.
So it is not unbelievable to think that perhaps Bush fell off the wagon - greatly upsetting his wife and in an attempt to make her happy he overcompensated and chose a friend of hers for the Supreme Court. A little "wink" to the little lady showing her that he knows she knows best.
George W. Bush would not be the first President to do something foolish because of his first lady. He would not be the last. I think Laura was as surprised as anyone that Miers was selected. But after all these years with 'W' she shouldn't have been.
