In an earlier entry, I wrote about how disturbing the concept of "finding" 434 votes the day
after the election is, especially in an election when an unheard-of 8 of 11 contested races go to Democrats in a pretty conservative little district in Indiana. Equally disturbing the lack of auditability (I don't know if that's a word, but I just made it up, so there!) with these new systems is, a follow-up now on the Lafayette, Indiana voting mess.
After adding in these 434 phantom votes that appeared out of nowhere, NONE of the elections that could have gone from Dem to GOP did so. I guess that's good news.
Here's a local story about it.
My favorite is that the district 5 race got even closer--only 5 votes separated the candidates (1,205 - 1,200). The voters in my house alone account for over half that margin. Whee :)
Seriously, though, I just heard an interview with Melissa Weast-Williamson on WASK news where she bascially said Norb Fischer could ask for all the recounts he wants, but she said she didn't really know how anybody was going to prove in the recount that the election went the wrong way. "It's all digital," she said.
Thought I'm not well-versed in political speech, I think that roughly translates to "Suck it."
Sadly, though, I think we'll have to call off the conspiracy witch-hunt dogs on this one. Oh well, maybe another day.
