I went to Syria about a year ago, and so I've sort of been watching to see where, when and how Syria would fit in to the Bush plans for MidEast re-design. I'm no Syria scholar, but this whole bombing in Beruit, considered as a Syrian act, makes no sense. Why would Syria rock the boat in Lebanon in such a spectacular way? The impression I got of the Assad gov't was that they were pretty much a rotting regime, and even though they dominate Lebanon, they're really not up for projecting power beyond their borders in any massive way. If they did this they are asking for real trouble, (Unless there's a loose cannon in the Syrian govt that is seriously willing to challenge the Assads by inviting American and Israeli intervention) So I think this bombing is something of a mystery, with many suspects--Syria itself, the jihad organizations, including AlQaeda, Israel, US? Am I seeing "Crisis Management" where there is none?
