I know the whole system (Constitutional, not political) is mean to jerk the extremes back to the middle. And I know I'll only have to hold my nose a little to vote for Kerry.
But damn, people suck
Watching CSPAN's replay of the SC voters forum (yes, another wild weekend) and I just can't figure out how Dean doesn't win. Kerry was just on. OK, less and less Senatese. Edwards was pretty good, but tough to pin down when he doesn't like the question. But Dean knocked it out of the park.
His answers were straight, his message was clear. Damn. This was the guy I liked back in June. I know all the politics aren't adding up for him, but I still can't figure it out. I guess my question is why people rarely pick the guy who's "best"?
Ok, that sounds kool aid-ish. I'm just thinking back over the last 35 years and trying to figure out why the candidate with the energy and ideas rarely wins out. Bobby Kennedy was hardly a lock in 68, though we'll never know. Muskie was stronger than McGovern, though I guess Watergate answers that one. Carter was an exception. Even Clinton wasn't the strongest Dem in 92. But Cuomo didn't run. And don't get me started on Bradley.
So for some reason, sitting here watching CSPAN, I started wondering why people suck. Not much of a diary I guess. Where's that beer.
