...I'm sitting here watching
CNN, and they just had a preview of a just finished interview between Dick Cheney & Wolf Blitzer to be aired at 5pm est. In it, Blitzer pressed Cheney about the idea that the Iraq insurgency is in its
"last throes". Cheney's response shows how deep the lie goes, or how detatched from reality these people are.
Cheney said that the comment was meant to explain the level of violence & WOULD NOT back away from it. He then went ahead to compare the situation in Iraq to WWII. Saying that we are now at a comprable place in Iraq, as the country was at in The Battle of The Bulge or The Battle of Okinawa.
You can see the full interview on CNN later on today...

I would like for someone to try to "square this circle" with something else said today. While Cheney was saying this to Blitzer, you had the top military commander in Iraq, General John Abizaid, telling the United States Senate the exact opposite...
The top American commander in the Persian Gulf told Congress on Thursday that the Iraqi insurgency has not grown weaker over the past six months, despite a claim by Vice President Dick Cheney that it was in its "last throes."
...Abizaid told the panel: "I believe there are more foreign fighters coming into Iraq than there were six months ago." As to the overall strength of the insurgency, Abizaid said it was "about the same" as six months ago.
"We see good progress in both Iraq and Afghanistan... But we are realistic. And we know that great change is often accompanied with violence. We are not trying to paint a rosy picture," Abizaid said...
