Because I'm proud of it, and it feels a bit like the beginnings of a letter to the editor.
I'm also interested in your thoughts as posing as a republican, since I live in Tennessee, and I'm pretty sure that my senators will ignore me if I use this letter.
Last point first.
I have been thinking about this one for a while. I am a registered voter in knoxville TN. This means that my senators of record are none other than Bill Frist and Alexander Lamar, both staunch republicans. My thoughts are that if I were to bother sending them posted letters, I should appear more moderate in my concerns. Is there anyone out there who can, better than me, concoct a letter to my senators which might contain more of the middle right's issues with both John Roberts Jr, and our president's apparent obstruction of an investigation into national security violations?
Now, this is what I wrote in my moveon petition about john roberts. Any thoughts before I send it in to my local paper?
A justice of the supreme court can and should represent the pinnacle of acheivement in justice. This means that the nominee should have a lengthy record of decisions that are insightful, intelligent, well reasoned, and most importantly, unquestionably within the bounds of law, without reflecting personal predjudice. In short, it should be the BEST JUDGE AVAILBLE. John Robert Jr. appears qualified to be a judge, as is evidenced by his recent appointment to the appelate court. However, he lacks both experience and proof of his independance from external pressures. What little we do know of him appears to be that of an activist. His work to overturn statutes for the interests of a few, be they coal executives, or industry insiders is, to me, the epitome of activsm, and cannot be tolerated in our supreme court.
