With the pull out of more coalition forces and the increasing unreliability of Iraqi forces I had a horrible thought last night. Given the neo-conservativs love affair with Israel will we try to deal with Sadr they same way they would?
What worries me is I can even see thier rational. The moderate Shia don't like Sadr, nor do the Iranians. Their main reason for mediation is the simple desire to not have the Mosques and Shrines damaged or destroyed in a US attack. The solution is to assinate him, thus saving the shrines and not upsetting the moderates or Iranians too much.
What is worse is that the big problem with this may fall within the neo-con's ideological blind spot. The paralells to the Israeli - Palestinian conflict to them would be evidence of the rightness of such an approach. They would fail to see both the ineffectiveness of the Lukid line, expected world reaction to such an blatant disreguard for international law, and further unification of the Arab world around a new Zionism.
