I've always been intrigued by the concept of Reagan Democrats (white, blue-collar, former New Deal coalition union members who voted for Reagan in droves) and wondered if the Dems could pull off a similar coup d'etat of traditionally Republican demographics.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a large enough demographic within the Republican party that would fit.
I'd love to hear ideas on how Dean could inspire the same kind of crossover that Reagan did in 1980. What would these "Dean Republicans" be like? Income? Religion? Region? Fiscal/social issues?
I appreciate everyone's input.
If anyone could figure a comparable scenario for the advent of "Clark Republicans" I'd be just as open to it.
