I originally put this at the bottom of a thread, but wish to generally restate it in a diary.
So many Democrats will not vote for a candidate solely based on the Iraq resolution vote. For the record, I was and am against the war from the start. However, the Iraqi war is BUSH'S WAR! He owns it completely. In reality, it does not belong to Kerry, Edwards, Gephardt or Lieberman, or even Dean and Clark, with their alleged inconsistent positions. Bush had majorities in both the Senate and the House. No matter how the Democrats voted, even with Biden-Lugar, he would have initiated his unilateral folly. None of the Democrats would have acted like Bush, without the support of the UN or our allies, and only as a last resort to an imminent threat. Does anyone here dispute this? Bush lied to them. He lied to us all.
Again, I am 100% anti-war. But in my opinion, to reject a candidate on this single issue ALONE, when it is really a moot point (based upon the reasons above), is a mistake. I think it's better to decide based upon everything a candidate brings to the table.
