I posted this idea as a comment in a diary that didn't make it very far
(Canada To Endorse Suicide Seeds), so I didn't get any feedback on the idea.
The idea is relatively simple:
Why don't environmental groups, ethical investors, individuals, churches, etc. run campaigns to make hostile takeovers of companies such as Monsanto?
We could put our money (and ideas) where our mouth is, invest some money, place people more to our liking on the corporate boards, and even (as individuals) rake in some money from dividends and (hopefully) increased share prices over time.
We could always join forces with a less-negative business competitor to help with the finances of such a campaign (i.e. help a company that has a better political/environmental/social record in their attempt to takeover a less socially-conscious company).
If Oracle and other corporations can wage hostile takeovers, why can't a concerted public effort do the same?
Can you imagine the Sierra Club appointing board members for Monsanto, ExxonMobil, and Ford? :-)
