I was at the site that gives the deaths of coalition forces in Iraq,
http://lunaville.org/warcasualties/Summary.aspx
And I came to a shocking realization. During the 12 days of March 03 that we were involved incombt, the U.S. lost 65 killed (along with another 27 British). That comes out to a rate of 5.42 / day for the U.S. rate of KIA.
During this month, April 04, for the first 8 days, we have lost 46 U.S. for a U.S. death rate of 5.75.
Put it another way -- if we continue at the current rate, that would work out to 37.9 per week, and 172.5 for the 30 days of April.
I do not think that Americans will be willing to continue to support such a rate of deaths for longer than a couple of weeks, especially since "major combat operations" were "over" as of May 1st.
Yes, someone could do a wonderfully powerful political ad on this, but I feel so badly for those dying on both sides -- people are using small arms and RPGs against armor, and in some cases succeeding, but meanwhile the use of air power in response will kill many innocent civilians [oh wait, they support the uprising, they're not innocent --- that's sarcasm, in case you wondered].
