I needed to share. My seven year old son is learning to retell stories in school. Tonight he choose to tell me about 3 historical figures that he found to be "good" people.
I waited to hear about Spiderman or Batman or Yu-Gi-Oh. I thought I might have to launch in to the whole real not real speech again. But to my surprise my son told me that the three people who impressed him the most were:
Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Martin Luther King, Jr
Jackie Robinson
My little liberal heart fluttered with surprise. My son told me that FDR suffered from pollo and that was a bad disease but he gave up his crusshes to help the US through a pression and a big World War. He was a very brave man. I agreed and said FDR was one of my heroes.
He then told me about Rosa Parks and how she got put in jail cause she wouldn't give up her seat. MLK he said didn't like that law and so he fought to change it and made it so people could all be equal.
And Jackie Robinson didn't loose his cool when people treated him bad and made it so everybody could play baseball.
I explained to my son that people like these were heroes to be proud of and they were a big reason why Mommy believes the things she does. He asked me alot of questions and I did my best to answer and I have to say I have never been prouder of my son or the people he found admirable.
So, I don't know if this is worth a diary but I wanted to share and at least on this day say Be proud Liberals, we have alot of heroes to look up to. These are just three.
