Peter Daou
was right.
Pardon me if I appear a bit naive, but sometimes I've felt like the folks on DailyKos and elsewhere rant and rave a lot about the "MSM", but since I've not had cable television until one week ago, I didn't get it. Until now.
One prime example: This morning I was watching MSNBC while eating some delicious Rice Chex, and Chris Matthews and Andrea Mitchell were discussing the President's unwillingness to release the photos of him with Jack Abramoff. ...So, how did they keep referring to his decision?
They said the President was
standing firm. That's right, he wasn't "stonewalling" or "getting in the way" or, heaven forbid, "obstructing justice." Nope. He was
standing firm.
It's just like Daou said it was. Even when the President ought to be called out for an obvious misjudgment on his part, who would dare speak out against him when he's just standing firm?
On a tangential note... since I just got cable for the first time, I couldn't help but notice that, at night, in the primetime slots, all I got are rightwing commentators for hours on end. There's Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Nancy Grace, Neil Cavuto, and Joe Scarborough. The only "middle of the road" folks are Larry King (what a joke), Greta Van Susteren (another joke), and Anderson Cooper. Oh, and there's Keith Olbermann. Thank god for Keith!
I guess I find myself really pissed that these right-wing commentators are what passes for primetime news shows.
It's any wonder we didn't catch on to what Peter Daou said any sooner than we did.
