As Catnip and others have diaried - the governing Liberals survived today by winning their Budget vote 153-152 in which the Speaker of the House (a Liberal) rose to vote to break the tie. This has only happenned a handful of times in Canadian political history, and is actually the first time in Canada's history that a Speaker cast the tie-breaking vote on a "matter of confidence" in Parliament for or against the ruling Party/Government in the House of Commons.
For those who wish to see the drama as it unfolded.. here is the
page to where the video is that showed the vote live as it occurred.

THe whole thing is quite interesting listening to the pundits explain everything.. but for those who want to get right to the excitement.. go to about 5:02 on the clip and just watch as they get thru the NDP members and to the independents Carolyn Parrish and Chuck Cadman.
THe other thing you might want to watch (or the Senate Republicans might want to watch)is how a Parliamentary Chamber acts in ACCORDANCE with Parliamentary precedent and rules and tries not to make things up to change the rules... tune in at about 12:15 when the final votes are tallied and announced and when the Speaker arises to explain his vote.
