As a poster on the wall of my junior-high school French class used to say: "Vive le week-end." Just a quick note before I run off to an 8th District meeting.
Regarding the Republican funding cuts to the Upper Peninsula (prisons at Newberry & Manistique, NMU), check out this quote from U.P. Democrat Gary McDowell (
full story from the MMJ)
"Just about every lawmaker I talk to knows where Newberry is now," McDowell said. "When you attack part of the U.P., you attack the whole U.P. and I don't think they understood that."
I still expect to see Rep. Tom Casperson ride to the rescue on at least one prison at the end. However, even if my theory about this having been planned by the House Republicans is correct, I would submit they have made a major miscalculation. McDowell sums it up quite well. Judging from the coverage in the MMJ, even sparing both prisons would not erase the ill-will the Republicans have created for themselves. Casperson should be getting his resume in order.

The budget war heats up and the intelligent design question dogs the

a 7% sales tax.
