This is a man who was vehement about President Clinton's impeachment via the Monica Lewinski episode. Somehow it reminds me of Rush Limbaugh and his stance on drug abuse, do what I say, not what I do!!
Christian Reformed Church executive director resigns
(Grand Rapids, August 3, 2005, 4:56 p.m.) The newly appointed head of the Grand Rapids-based Christian Reformed Church is stepping down in a firestorm of controversy.
The Synod voted unanimously in June to appoint 57-year-old Reverend Calvin Bremer to lead the Christian Reformed Church in North America effective August 22.
A CRC pastor since 1972, Bremer has been a mainstay. Over the past nine years, Bremer has served as executive director of the CRC's internationally broadcast "Back to God Hour."
While working on the program, Bremer allegedly became romantically involved with a married female associate.
The church would not elaborate, but on the CRC Web site it says it received information that caused members of the executive committee to lose confidence in Bremer's ability to fulfill the leadership requirements that are inherent in the executive director position.
The Synod recommended and accepted Bremer's resignation last week.
In Bremer's resignation letter he says, "I regret that my lack of good judgment to maintain appropriate boundaries with a colleague in ministry has caused pain to the church of our Lord Jesus Christ and to many of you both personally and professionally."
Leaders of the church met behind closed doors Wednesday afternoon to discuss a replacement.
