First, you prepare the American people, and the rest of the world. You tell them that you will do everything in your power to mitigate the damage, but policies about to be enacted will require sacrifice. For an indeterminate period, the economy will be unpredictable at best - downright ugly at worst.
Then you freeze every penny of Saudi Arabian assets wherever you can find them. Create a World Terrorism Court at the UN. The Saudi's get their money back when the Court determines that they are cooperating in the world-wide war on terror.
Spell out what the Saudi's need to do:
- provide total autonomy to our FBI/CIA agents
- shut down madrassas, crack down on destructive wahhibism
- open their files on Israel for examination
- give up for prosecution any official or individual implicated in terror plots - past, present or future
Now why won't this happen? Even under Kerry? Well, I can't help wondering why he isn't already laying out this course of action. At least setting the table for it.... But then I started thinking. When's the last time you heard a pol ask us to sacrifice anything? How many Skull and Bones buddies would stand to lose millions or billions as stock markets took the hit?
I don't harbor much hope, but in 1979, we turned our former ally, Iran, into a pariah overnight after they took the hostages. Hmmm... a couple of hundred hostages for 444 days or 3000 dead in NYC/D.C./Penn.? 15 (out of 19) hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. How are they not our enemy?
