Let's learn from the religious right. Whenever anything comes out of the White House (or Senate or Congress) that they do not agree with, they have their army of crazies call & write all three of the above institutions. We need to let this president know that his push to get support for the patriot act and support for his war, is not going to happen. We also need to ask Democrats to get off their asses and do something... support Murtha, support the troops by bringing them home, no patriot act.
Also, the triangulation by the top contenders for the Democratic presidential primary has gone on for far too long. If we don't start letting them know that we do not want another "Kerry" or the old "Gore" style presidential race, they will never get out of the middle of the road.. so, loud and clear: no more patriot act, no more war, no more trying to have it both ways.

Try to keep your message respectful and to the point (see example below). They do count every call & letter and tally up positives vs negatives.
Please tell________(the president, Sen. Clinton, Sen. Santorum, Congressman Delay... or who ever represents you) that:
1 - American people would like to know why their rights have been violated. (taping our conversations).
2 - The American people would like to know why the president is talking about Democracy in Iraq. The reason for this war was to protect America. We're done, bring our troops home.
(you could also add a bit more if you like:
"I think it's swell that the Iraqi people voted but please hear me sir, The Iraqi people is not worth the life of my child nor the life of my neighbors child. Bring the troops home now.)
3 - We support John Murtha's plan for withdrawal. (I'm not sure people are aware of the fact that most congressional democrats left Murtha standing on his own with the amazing request Murtha made: BRING THE TROOPS HOME NOW. He deserves their support and we need to tell them that. I mean, it seems the only thing that matters to these elected democrats, is getting re-elected. They do nothing if they haven't had a focus group try it first and they live and die by the polls... pressure from us is the only thing that will get them moving.
It would take 2 or 3 minutes to do this and it does make a difference. The week John Murtha was on Meet the Press he stated how many thousands of people had called and e-mailed to thank him for his condemnation of the war, he was clearly moved by this. You could always send him a belated thank you note for coming out against the war:
Murtha
