March 20 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush, speaking as the conflict in Iraq enters its fourth year, said the terrorists who destroyed a Shiite shrine last month won't succeed in sparking a civil war or thwarting democracy there.
Now we can list all the other statements Mr. Bush has made that were flat out wrong (although he did make one call right ) -- but let's look at some of the statements from folks who live in the reality-based world:
``We are losing each day as an average 50 to 60 people throughout the country, if not more,'' Allawi said on the BBC's ``Sunday AM'' program. ``If this isn't civil war, then God knows what civil war is.''
Republican Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska said on ABC's ``This Week'' program yesterday that he agreed with Allawi and that Iraq has been in the midst of ``a low-grade civil war'' for at least six months. ``Our own generals have told me that.''
More than three-fourths of the public thinks it's likely that Iraq is headed toward civil war, an AP-Ipsos poll taken in early March found. And two-thirds of Americans say the U.S. is losing ground in preventing civil war in Iraq, according to a Pew Research Center poll taken in the same period. That's up from 48 percent in January.
So... basically we have a guy who
a) doesn't read the newspapers
b) can't decide if Iraq was involved in 9/11 or not
c) doesn't think much about where bin Laden is
d) told us there were WMD in Iraq when there weren't any
e) constantly tells us that things are going great
f) declared Mission Accomplished almost 3 years ago
g) can't submit a budget for the war
h) can't provide an exit strategy for the war
i) can't provide a justification for the war
j) can't convince allies to join in the war
k) ignored advise of many military professionals
l) can't admit he made a mistake
And now he thinks we will believe him on this?
The guy is a perfectly good contraindicator.
If he says its broke... don't fix it.
If he says its fine... call a repairman.
If he says buy...sell.
If he says sell..buy with both fists.
If he says its not Civil War.... it's Civil War.
Oh... I almost forgot... the one call he got right:
When he said, "Bring it on"... they did.
