Like I should have better things to do at 2 am EDT than writing a diary, but here it goes.
If the filibuster is so evil, is the U.S. Senate the only legislative body doing it. Certainly the states, who have similiar legislatures, would would not be doing the devil's work, especially in the reddest of red states, Texas.
But there it is in The State of Texas' Citizen Handbook:
FILIBUSTER: In Texas, a filibuster is allowed only in the Senate. A filibuster occurs when one senator holds the floor through talking or long speeches, without sitting down or leaving the vicinity of the senator's desk. Although the primary purpose of a filibuster is usually to kill a bill, sometimes this is also done to reach a compromise or to delay a vote as long as possible.
Now, why is the Texas Senate explaining this evil tactic? Because they are using it, too. I'll bet, if you research each state, they all have rules on filibustering.
Of course we all know that. It's a shame some enterprising newspaper or magazine hasn't brought this to the country's attention thus far. It is apparent they lack the will to conduct independent analysis and are too willing to follow the Company/Republican line.
Hello! News people! Did you ever hear of enterprise reporting? News analysis? How about adding background? Perspective? I know you're out there. I want you to do your jobs and come on the Kos and brag about it a little bit. But I think if you do your job, we will find you real quick.
