One slice to go has new meaning.
Senator Norm Coleman's (R-MN) 81 year old father was cited for lewd conduct when observed engaging in a sex act with a female companion in the parking lot of a popular pizzeria. (St. Paul Pioneer Press, July 27, 2006).
Hold the Viagra.
Who frequents popular pizza joints?
Kids. Lots of kids.
If the alleged "lewd" act was committed in view of a child, or worse yet, children, Coleman's dad has a lot more to worry about than just becoming a member of his home state's very special club, the Minnesota Sex Offender Registry.
Throw "minor" into the mix and we have a whole new ball game.
Major league.
Under the recently signed Adam Walsh Act, all persons under 18 years of age are now considered minors in order to thoroughly "protect the children".
Minors who view sex acts are considered sexually "offended".
According to the Senate, who passed the Adam Walsh Act by voice vote and the House, where a handful of elected official-all sponsors and co-sponsors of the AWA- passed the same act under suspension of the rules, all roads lead to one designation.
The Senator's father is a child molester.
A legal stretch?
Nope.
Just the same sort of zealot logic that makes a sex offender out of some who publicly urinates.
Or has consensual sex in the parking lot of a pizza joint.
America must protect the children.
As reported by the St. Paul's Press Pioneer Press, Coleman issued a statement: "I love my father dearly. I do not condone his actions or behavior, and I am deeply disturbed by what I have learned. He clearly has some issues that need to be dealt with, and I will encourage him to seek the necessary help."
In the not too distant past, most would snicker at such a scenario and applaud the fact that an 81 year old man was still sexually active.
Living his life to the max.
Sexually charged. (Pardon the pun).
But because our sexually schizophrenic 109th Congress wants everyone in this country to believe that child molesters lurk on every corner, a picture of deceit is painted with the brush of stranger danger.
And America fell for this lie.
Until a family member is charged with a sex-related offense.
Instant reality check.
People in this country are labeled sex offenders everyday for sex-related offenses caught in a net cast far too wide.
Many offenses do not involve physical contact.
With anyone.
Period.
Try and "voice vote" your dad out of this one, Norm.
