I got suckered in and clicked the damn ad. I try not to do such a silly thing as I cruise around the net.
But this one initially had the great kind of geeky home movie video hook that's right up my alley.
The following link is to an American Airlines net ad - decent come-hither ad copy, interactive and speedy Macromedia flash applet makes a game of the second level links - somewhat cool.
whyyoufly.com - Find your zen
But the most curious item of all is the dropdown...
On the
Find Your Zen sub-applet, you can choose countries, then cities, then themes and see where (I assume) AA can fly you or get you within spitting range.
I played a little game - first, here are cities I didn't think I'd encounter in the list, or surprising themes and events:
Syria: Damascus: Damascus Film Festival
Love to be a critic at this one...
Iran: Tehran: Yalda Festival
Excerpted description:
"For ancient Zoroastrians, day and night symbolise good and evil, and Yalda was a night when the battle between the two forces reached a peak."
Cambodia: Phnom Phen: Festival of the Reversing Current (Bon Om Tuk).
Nuff said.
Bangladesh: Dhaka: Festival of Mourning
The only event or theme listed for Dhaka - no joke.
There are others of interest, of course. Cuba, for one. Thought we had an embargo on that country and visas were limited.
Second, here are a few cities that would be interesting to see on the dropdown:
Afghanistan: Kabul, Qandahar, Mazur e Sharif
Iraq: Baghdad
North Korea: Pyongyang
Chechnya: Grozny
Sudan: Nyala
Somalia: Mogadishu
Anticipated/projected themes and events on some other late night, perhaps. I'm certain there would be a few.
