MSNBC Video
MSNBC is completely blowing the election coverage today. What's worse, is that their reflexive fear is being projected into an enemy of "liberal bloggers":
I'm sitting down to watch MSNBC to see if there are any early indications(on relevant issues like who is winning!), and the first piece they play is continuous coverage of Lieberman's website being down. However, it doesn't end there. The bogey man or bog-E-men who has caused the website to go down was none other than Markos Moulitsas himself, Daily Kos, and anyone who can use a computer than doesn't support Lieberman apparently.
Chris Matthews has continued to attempt to tie bloggers to Lieberman's website problem even though there is no evidence, NOT A SHRED, to support such an accusation at this point...
Some more after the fold...and open discussion
This disgusting display by Matthews, O'Donnell, and the rest of MSNBC is nothing more than an attack on something they clearly do not understand. In the realm of the internet, much as in the war on terror, any potential adversaries are unclear. A 14 year old with a knack for computers or a slob from Belgium (sorry Belgium, just first place that came to mind) could be on the other side of the internet eyeing your website for a hack job. There's no way to know until you have the investigators do the tracking, and even then sometimes it is nearly impossible to tell anything useful. The coverage amounts to a deliberate smear of both Lamont and the blogosphere. Not only that, but this will, of course, give them a reason tomorrow morning to say that bloggers cheated if Lieberman loses.
I have quite a history with running websites with moderate to high traffic (over 6 years experience) and I can tell you that it is difficult to impossible to track down hackers within the day, or ever claim to know who is attacking your site. I had attempts from groups in China, S. Korea, Iran(these bastards got in once), and even Mexico. How do these pundits have any idea who might be attacking this website?
First, as of now I see no indication or evidence that anyone from the blogosphere is involved. Second of all, why didn't the campaign have a backup website ready to go? If they had a backup of the database, they could either buy hosting from a new company and rollout the DB within several hours with the help of their host, or they could delete the hacked DB and simply replace it with the backup. This is common practice, hacking happens(even to websites that people rarely visit), and that's why you backup your website often and off site.
Sorry for the disjointed nature of the post. I am so mad at this coverage of Lieberman's website that I can't even think straight.

Sean Smith, Lieberman's campaign manager, told MSNBC's Chris Matthews that Lamont should ask his supporters to "cease and desist" from "these sort of dirty political tricks," if in fact Lamont's supporters are behind this hacking effort.
From the Muckraker
I just got off the phone with the internet consultant to Joe Lieberman's campaign, Dan Geary. And he says that the site has been "fatally compromised" by an unknown hacker. In addition, all email addresses with the Joe2006.com domain are down too; the attack, Geary says, has "disrupted the entire campaign."
I've got news for Mr. Geary, it wasn't the website problems that disrupted the entire campaign. Maybe they shouldn't have cancelled their GOTV effort?

It's a pattern, you're going on the pattern...You're saying it's an MO, they're willing to do what's necessary.
