I'm now convinced that unless he cooperates, he's going to a Marion, Illinois (that's where they send Traitors).
But there's a shame involved. Other reporters are also going to go to Jail for contempt. First up is Matt Cooper of Time Mag. It's sad; he has a wife and child. Then there's the elderly Walter Pincus of WaPo (I love his stuff). Then there's Glenn Kessler, and now Judith Miller has been subpoenaed and faces contempt. But Judy is going to Jail.
Now they don't have to go to Jail. They can "roll-over" like "Big Russ" and turn States-Evidence and become a Rat.
I have a feelin' that Matthews recent anger may be tied to the fact that he has been subpoenaed; that he has friends who have been subpoenaed - like Campbell Brown, and they're all facing this problem (they probably didn't think Fitzgerald was this tough, not until this past weekend anyways).

Now after reading various opinions, I've come to the conclusion that they should talk. From all news accounts, the WH initiated the communications and contacted them. Given that they were trying to slime an opponent's spouse, and broke laws in the process, there is no ethical reason, practice, or custom that demands protecting such an unsolicited communication.
But it seems like they won't talk. So come election day, we may have a dozen reporters in jail for contempt. And they're gonna be there, in part, because Novak printed this slime. I hope the Beltway and NY Press realizes that.
I hope you're happy Bob; you Douche Bag.
PS I heard that because Novak is a syndicated columnist, he has to pay for his legal defense himself. And we know how much he loves his money. A Just Desert.
