While Republicans Waste Time Talking About Weddings, A List Of 10 'To-Do' Items For America
This morning on
C-SPAN's Washington Journal,
U.S. News And World Report China expert and rising media star
Bay Fang spoke at length about Beijing's drive to develop biofuels and to find ways to confront the growing environmental crisis. Meanwhile, the Republican leader of the United States and the Republican leadership of the United States Congress are planning weddings--weddings they like, weddings they do not like--weddings!
Somewhere in the world there are governments that talk about important issues. America, by contrast, is ruled by wedding planners.
So, in response to a government that wastes time, here is a wedding gift from Frameshop to Bill Frist: America's To-Do List.
Every item on the list is more important for our country--and more urgent--than talking about weddings.
Here is the list:
America's To-Do List:
- End the war in Iraq.
- Find Osama Bin Laden.
- Guard every port and gate into the country.
- Give healthcare to everyone.
- Enforce fair labor laws.
- Prepare for natural disasters.
- Build smaller, fuel efficient cars.
- Modernize our energy supply.
- Make our public schools the best in the world.
- Bring broadband internet to every house in America.
These are all important items that can fit onto a single PostIt note next to the phone of every Senator, Congressperson and White House staffer. These 'To-Do' items on America's list range from national security, to the health of American families, labor law violation, hurricane preparadness, fuel efficient cars, great schools and the information divide. These are all top priorities for every American.
Now,having looked over that list full pressing and visiionary items, let's take a look at the items on the Republican 'To-Do' list this week:
Republican To-Do List:
- Talk about weddings.
Interesting...very interesting.
Now, I am married and it is a wonderful thing. I recommend it to everyone who is interested in building a life with the person they love.
But I will be honest with you: with the exception of 'wedding planner,' there are very few jobs that allow you to dedicate your time to talking about what does and does not make a good wedding.
It is understandable that Bill Frist, President Bush and the Republican leadership in our government would rather while away the summer talking about weddings than working through America's To-Do List.
But unfortunately, Americans demand government leaders who are focused and serious.
