Finally, a genuine
newsperson took her turn at Holy Joe, and while showing all
due respect, told him to
blow it out his ear!
Gwen Ifill of the NewsHour on PBS (audio links below) interviewed Lamont
first, and
then then the Joetanic. Lamont was fantastic; in every interview he expresses himself fluently and lucidly in a way that the pResident has not done
even once in his life. Lamont has been a master of understatement, in my opinion. He says he is would prefer that Lieberman had not made the choice he has but doesn't denounce him. He aligns himself with the Democrat
ic Party. And he keeps talking about the 63 lobbyists for each member of Congress, while leaving it for others to point out that
every night Holy Joe sleeps with a Big Pharma lobbyist.
When Gwen got to Lieberman, she asked him about his independent candidacy. Lieberman immediately went to his TP saying "I am an Independent Democrat." Gwen chuckled and replied that she was asking about his independent run, leaving Joe fuming.
Joe then went through his talking points. E.g., when asked about the endorsements today for Lamont from all prominent Democrats in CT and the Senate:
If endorsements were important, the results last night would have been different.
Huh?
Then about Iraq:
Nobody wants our troops out of Iraq more than I. But not now. If we set a date for withdrawal, [I paraphrase now], the insurgents will just stop killing our sons and brothers awaiting that date.
That is supposed to attract voters?
And so on. But Gwen Ifill made me tremendously proud to be a member and supporter of my local PBS station and of the NewsHour.
