I frequent
Atrios at least once a day, and today an
article about the plans for the Republican convention in NYC appeared. It stirred up quite a few qualms.
First off, why are we so eager to call upon the army to provide "backup" for the police these days? I thought that violated the 1868 Posse Comitatus Act. (<snark>then again, this is an administration that had no problem stampeding over Amendments 1, 4, 5, 6, and 9 of the friggin' Constitution</snark>)
Second, I'm assuming that NYC is going to be pretty messy come convention time, and I can see this being just as nasty, if not worst, than the 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago. Can Bush really risk the iron fist of the military smacking down the heated opposition outside? Or does he just not care at this point?
