Finally, after much internet harping about the myopic dismissal of Arabic linguists from the US Military simply because they are gay, the Washington Post has done
an excellent, moving front page piece on them.
I don't need to argue this on the merits here; thankfully, Stanley Kurtz and his bigoted minions are not present. But I've written before about the potential I think this has a political issue. President Bush's top priority is fighting terrorists? Nope. It's discriminating against gays. Some compassionate conservative.
Lets see what comes about from this article. No doubt it will prompt press releases from the Democratic campaigns, though the chickenshit ones most likely will not call outright for the abandonment of don't ask don't tell. I wonder whether Tom DeLay will say anything. It strikes me that this is the kind of issue where the net could make a huge difference. We could cover the asses of our conservative friends by proposing some 'National Security emergency' declaration that temporarily lifts don't ask don't tell. And then roast their asses if they try to revoke it.
I don't know: what do you think?
