Based on the Rybock Memo in Britain (see georgia10's patriotic post on the subject
here and the illegitimacy that was the 2004 election (see Seemabes post
here, we can justifiably call for Impeachment of the president and his cohorts. But, as the cynics suggest, it isn't likely to get through congress.
However, when congress is inept, then action falls to the people. Congress is there to do what we, the sovereigns of this country want. They are our servant. If they no longer take direction from us, then we have every right to fire them and institute a new government, as the Declaration of Independence points out.
Therefore, if we are to see any action, then we must act ourselves. Every revolution has a catalyzing event, one which put the government and the world on notice that we, the people, have had enough. For the Americans of 1776, this event was the Boston Tea Party. We should use this history to our advantage.
Therefore, since we are dealing with a religio-fascist cult, I recommend that we plan and undertake a nationwide action of having "Boston Kool-Aid Parties", whereby we throw red-colored koolaid into nearby bodies of water (choose from flavors of raspberry, cherry, strawberry, or watermellon...). A packet of Kool-aid is cheap, and large groups can easily buy entire boxes of red kool-aid for event attendees. The dumping of red, Republican kool-aid is symbolic: it represents refusing to drink anymore of the Republican's bullshit. It is a clear, throw-down-the-gauntlet message to congress: do your job, or we WILL revolt, and these harbors won't be stained red with just kool-aid anymore. For religious groups near rivers, I recommend using the verses from the bible where God is said to have turned the Nile into blood to mock the pharaoh's tyranny over the Israelites. We don't have to allow the religious fundies to control all religious messages. In fact, it may be appropriate to read these verse before dumping the Kool-aid at all events:
Exodus 7:19-21
19 And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone. 20 And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood. 21 And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt
We should focus our national Kool-Aid dumping event in Boston Harbor. We should attempt to dye the entire Harbor red, along with the speeches, the demands, and even some indian costumes if people are so moved. Then, after the dumping in Boston Harbor, groups nationwide will then participate later that day or the following day by dumping koolaid into whatever nearby bodies of water are at hand in their area. This emphasizes the Boston protest and makes the statement national in scope. It also allows local media to cover an event in their area.
Also, if the filibuster rule is undermined by the Nuke Option or if we go to war with Iran by the time these events occur, this is another thing to advertise as a justification for these protests and as more evidence that a revolt is necessary to restore constitutional checks and balances, since the filibuster is a "canary in the coalmine" for the health and vitality of our democracy and another war based on lies is no more in our interests than the first one was.
We in the Dean campaign always said that we were a new revolution and declared that the Tea is in the Harbor. Now it is time to really throw it in, except kool-aid, rather than tea, is more applicable in our current situation (and cheaper, too...). Many people said that the revolution started on November 3, if Bush won. Well, he "won". November 3 is come and gone. The Republicans are grasping for power, just as we knew they would. We can stand by and let them pass RealID, Bankruptcy legislation (call them the 21st Century "Intolerable Acts"), launch a new war against Iran, undermine our rights and democracy, and shield themselves and fellow republicans from the consequences of their actions. But that is ONLY if we stand for it. These are the time that try mens souls, and we must set the standard for patriotism and service and, yes, sacrifice for our country.
We are now calling for the chickenhawks to sign up to fight their wars overseas, so the time has come for us to also put up or shut up: Our lives and our sacred honor must be placed on the line to fight for democracy here at home. We must become history's leaders and actors. The time has come to act. And the first step is to put our leaders on notice. I can think of no better, more patriotic way to invoke the spirit of the Revolution than to hold an event at Boston Harbor, with events that echo its message in every area of the country.
