This morning the San Diego Union-Tribune published
an articledetailing the thousands that signed the petition nominating me to be their candidate in the 50th district.
The article started: "With television cameras rolling and campaign volunteers cheering, Francine Busby plunked 4,161 signatures down on the counter at the county elections office. The stack was thicker than a volume of `War and Peace.' The words inside weren't as elegant as Tolstoy's, but they did tell a story: Lots of people like Busby. Each of the signatures represented a voter who supports Busby's candidacy in the 50th Congressional District."
The article made clear what we all know already - that this district is ready for change. While the newspaper article noted that "it is `very rare' that candidates ever turn in more than a few hundred signatures to put their names on the ballot," I had the pleasure to turn in over 4,000 signatures. This campaign has clearly surpassed mere partisanship, and has developed into a true public response to the ethics crisis that now faces Washington.
Thank you so much to those of you who showed up to support me, my campaign, and, most importantly, our mission to restore honesty and integrity to Congress.
As I have earlier said, this is not about being liberal. This is not about being conservative. This is about making sure our government works for all Americans
