Chafee (R) 38 (41)
Whitehouse (D) 44 (46)
Laffey (R) 31 (29)
Whitehouse (D) 55 (57)
I'd bet that what we saw in neighboring Connecticut last night will repeat itself in Rhode Island with Laffey taking out the incumbent. Anti-incumbent sentiment is running strong, and those incumbents under 50 percent will be extra vulnerable this year.
In the general, Chafee is bleeding Democratic support -- only 19 percent of Dems support his candidacy. A couple of months ago, it was 38 percent. And he'll continue to lose more vital Democratic support in this bluest of Blue states as he tacks further Right to survive his primary battle.
