OK, now that Lamont has won the primary election and it meaning aftermath, etc. have been blogged, diaried and analyzed all day, I just have one message for the dems. Your answer to everything the Republicans (and some supposed "Centrist Democrats") have already started throwing out is "60 %"
What does that mean? More below the fold.
When they say that Lamont's win demonstrates that a one-issue candidate who opposes the Iraq war was propelled to victory by the antiwar extreme left of the Democratic Party your answer is "60% of Americans oppose the war in Iraq. If you are saying that 60% of America is far left, I believe that bodes well for our Democratic chances in November."
When they say that extreme partisan bloggers went after Lieberman because of his bipartisan attempts to work with the President, you say, "62% of Americans disapprove of Bush's handling of the situation in Iraq. If you are saying that 62% of Americans agree with those bloggers, democrats are going to do extremely well this Fall".
When they say that the "cut and run" wing of the Democratic party has taken over and will allow another 911 if given control of Congress, you say "61% of Americans say we should withdraw some or all of our troops by the end of the year and 57% say the U.S. should have a timetable for withdrawing those troops. Apparently Americans want Democrats like Lamont who will:
A. recognize the errors we have made in Iraq
B. have a plan for withdrawal so that we stop generating more terrorists by occupying a Middle East country indefinitely, and
C. demand that we go after the people who actually attacked us on 911.
61% of Americans say that's not cut and run, it's turn around and shoot at the right enemy."
