A recent article on
Slashdot has an interview with Kos about open source journalism. The Gannon scandal is mentioned as well.
This is a chance for the DailyKos community to communicate with the Slashdot community. Many people at Slashdot have posted comments on Open Source Journalism.
My opinion is, while Open Source Journalism is a good idea, the community needs to pool its money, its resources, its programing talent, and build new innovative journalism tools. These new blogging tools should focus on automating the processes and on making the process easier.
There are a few options.
Civicspace seems to be a popular option. Some things people can do, suggest good ideas. Starting in this thread everyone who reads this Diary should post at least 1 good idea. After these ideas are in the open and we comment on them, go to
http://civicspacelabs.org/forum and tell your ideas to the civic space team.
Finally, someone needs to start a fundraiser to gather money for the purpose of developing online journalism tools. If people are serious about becoming journalists I don't think this website is the site for it. I think by making another journalist specific site, complete with the tools and resources to speed up the process then the era of Open Source Journalism can begin.
