Piling on Doug Schoen

Fri Apr 27, 2007 at 04:09:59 PM PDT

Doug Schoen is a caricature of the evil DC-based Democratic consultant.

There's his pre-2006-election concern trolling:

The 2006 Congressional elections thus far are a missed opportunity for Democrats to lay out an agenda for change that both unifies the party and presents them to the electorate as the logical (and acceptable) alterative to what the Republicans are offering America today.

There's his bashing of progressive organizations and his undisclosed ties to You-Know-Who:

Schoen is a paid contributor to Fox News, and didn't disclose it in his interview when he was on the radio bashing Moveon during the Fox News/Nevada Democratic Party scuffle.

There's the fact that he's just wrong about everything. Ezra Klein:

There's this wonderful moment in the Simpsons, where Burns goes into the doctor for a check-up, and the doctor explains that the only reason he's alive is that there are so many diseases trying to kill him that none can get through. They're all crowded at the door, struggling to enter. That's sort of describes my reaction to Doug Schoen's health care op-ed. I feel virtually incapable of engaging with it, paralyzed by the infinite expanse of logical holes, self-serving omissions, and political hackery riddling the article. But I shall soldier on [...]

It's almost a parody of the pernicious Democratic consultant. There's no core convictions, no policy preferences, no belief in Democratic ideas, no thoughts about how to lead public opinion, a fetish for bipartisanship, a willingness to ignore the ongoing sins of the Republicans and abandon popular progressive legislation, and an attempt to convince the Democratic Party that it's actual position is weaker than it is and compromise must start now. That he's not backed up by the facts of the poll nor the facts of Medicare Part D don't stop him in the least. This is very genuinely one of the worst opinion pieces I've ever encountered.

And now, this Liebercrat is the author of a book that supposedly tells Democrats what to do to win the White House in 2008. Given that his firm is working with Hillary Clinton today (his partner is Mark Penn), maybe he should impart his "wisdom" to his paying clients.

Now, he's got some hack outfit trying to "place" his bullshit on blogs. Check out this email I just got:

Subject: BLOG TOPIC: Will voters perceive Democrats as Weak On National Security?

Dear Markos,

I’m a reader of your site and wanted to take the time to drop you a line to point you in the direction of a possible topic or guest for your blog.

I am working with Doug Schoen, he is a political insider who made a name for himself as one of the inventors of overnight polling. He is also the author of the new book “The Power of the Vote.” His expertise is in understanding public opinion and how it will impact the results of the 2008 Presidential Campaign.

His recent recent comments in the Boston Globe and on the Huffington Post have cause quite a stir on both sides of party lines.

Doug would love to share some of his insight with your readers. If you are interested, please visit http://www.blog-guests.com/... to find an op-ed piece which you are invited to use in full or in excerpts on your site. It also includes links to some of his other writings that have sparked debate in the blogosphere.

If you would like, review copies are available. Additionally, Doug would be happy to be interviewed on your site, provide “guest blogger” services for a day, or provide you with exclusive excerpts from his book, “The Power of the Vote.”

Please drop me a line if you are interested in having Doug Schoen as a guest on your blog.

Thanks for your time.

Sincerely,

Jeff Nordstedt

These people are obviously so freakin' stupid that they've never heard of setting up a diary on Daily Kos. But beyond that, these morons think that blogs sit around pining for "guest blogs" by tired Liebercrats like Doug Schoen. They think people outside of their DC cocktail party circuit give a shit about then. It's so pathetic it's hilarious.

Update: Oh, and he worked to get Republican Mike Bloomberg elected mayor of New York. So yeah, your typical Liebercrat.
