In addition to the Presidential Primaries, 3 states held congressional primaries: California, Ohio and Maryland. These are the interesting results:
California
Senate:
Republican: Former St. Secretary of State Bill Jones won an easy victory, taking about 1/2 the vote.
Republican District 3: Republican Rep Doug Ose retiring. Far right State Senator Thomas Oller is locked in a very tight battle with former State Attorney General and 1998 Governor nominee Dan Lungren. Doug Ose's sister finished 3rd.
Democrat District 12, Rep Tom Lantos was renominated with about 70% of the vote after facing his first tough primary challenge over his support for going to war in Iraq
Democrat District 20, Democrat Rep Cal Dooley retiring. Democrats Former State Senator Jim Costa easily overcame a well financed challenge by Lisa Quigley, Dooley's Chief of Staff. A State Senator also won the Republican nomination. But Costa's large win (over 70% of the vote) should allow Democrats to unify behind him.
Republican District 46. Dana Rohrabacher easily beat former Congressman Bob Dornan by about a 7-1 margin. Dornan obviously got under Rohrabacher's skin, as this following quote from Dana shows: "The voters have told him exactly where to go; not Washington, but back home, where he can crawl under a rock," Rohrabacher said. "It seems that the voters have cast their votes for a positive conservative approach, rather than a bellicose, negative approach."
