Building a poll is hard work and I didn't do so well in my diary yesterday where I tried to make a Health Insurance coverage poll. Not that I should take all the blame -- the situation is a total mess!
I left off some painfully obvious categories (and that was my fault.) But the health insurance situations in some families is very complicated. Which I should have remembered, because it's been complicated in my own family also.
I'd like to get it right before I post a fresh (and perfect) poll tomorrow. And I'd appreciate all the input and advise possible. If you're interested in this project please follow me after the jump:
I've posted the original and recompiled (so far) lists in the table below. It's obvious that the level of complication is staggering -- in fact way beyond the capacity of a 15 line poll. While I'm sure we can combine some of the elements, I'm equally certain that we'll be adding others.
Would it make sense to simplify the logic of the questions by polling people who themselves have good health insurance separately from those who do not have good health insurance? We could have the same questions for both groups. And it seems like it would be easier to follow the logic of the questions.
Here is yesterday's poll as I posted it:
Among me, my family and friends:
- Everyone I know has good health insurance
- My immediate family has good health insurance
- One or more of my parents doesn't have health insurance
- Some of my adult children don't have health insurance
- Some of my adult siblings don't have health insurance
- Some of my closest friends don't have health insurance
- I've got someone in more than one of the above categories
- I've got someone in all the above categories
- I have no interest or concern about this issue at all. It's meaningless to me.
