In what could best be described a Friday fluff piece gone awry, Neil Cavuto managed to insult his guest, the mother of the Israeli State, and the mother of our current president. All in a one minute time span.
The blunders, which appear to have been aroused by the host's over-confidence, not hostility, occured near the end of his afternoon market wrap-up show.
Neil's victim/guest was a nearly pointless Meme Roth, an advocate for "weight appropriate" mothers. Some obligatory Mother's Day nod.
Roth specifically respresents a group called "Wedding Gown Challenge," which I found rather humorous -- as if 14 Bridesmaids and 600 guests weren't enough already. After some mild assertation that Moms shouldn't let themselves 'go', Cavuto channeled his stressed-out stay-at-home, market-maven mothering viewers:
"[Some viewers] are at home, saying -- who is this bitch?" While Neil surely meant no harm, I got the sense that his guest's daintiness may have been dinged.
Neil missed the hint, and after contemplating a sampling of individuals Roth deemed deserving her admiration, Cavuto barked:
"The people you mentioned to me were all thin people...
Golda Meir was a cow."
(Roth looked clueless, no doubt).
"Golda Meir. She was a big woman. So, would you rule her out? Or Barbara Bush -- not exactly Twiggy. Would you rule her out of the admiration club?"
That's it. No major crime, just a breakfast starter of stupid comments inspired by stupid journalism. Here's the Quicktime video.
OK. COME-ON! How do you pull that name out of midair? Golda Meir! Her Wikipedia picture doesn't exactly MOO back. Did she really pork out at some point? Now, Mrs. Bush. No Twiggy for sure. But, he chose to insult two people who are beloved by Fox's core constituency. Maybe all the insults hurled at Hilary required last minute balancing.
