Does anyone know why we're not impeaching Gonzales?

Because I don't recall.

Former "Justice" Department official (and Midnight US Attorney) Bradley Schlozman, appearing for defendant Lollipop Guild before the Senate Judiciary Committee, really helped clarify things today. In fact, he prompted Chairman Leahy to comment, "I think you're trying to break Attorney General Gonzales' record of saying you don't recall or you don't remember."

See the video at Think Progress, linked above. You've got to hear that voice. Then you'll get my reference.

So Leahy makes a keen observation, to be sure. But expect more of the same, from almost anyone who's called to testify. They know that Members of Congress are slow to pull the trigger when they get anything less than rock solid evidence presented to them on a silver platter. So that's what they'll give you. "I don't recall" and endless frustration. It's worked so well for everyone else in the past, ever since Iran-Contra.

And what penalty has there ever been for it? Answer that question, and you'll understand why everyone does it.
