These percentages attempt to measure how often particular Democratic candidates are mentioned in the same news stories as President Bush.
Methodology: Google News searches, as listed, collected on November 23, 2003, at approximately 11:15 a.m. Central. "Bush" likely includes many non-Presidential mentions (such as plants), so percentages are consistently biased downward for all Democratic candidates. Kerry, Edwards, and Braun are searched slightly differently due to common differences in how their names are reported in press stories. If anything that would bias these three candidates' results slightly upward. (It is remotely possible Bob Kerry, John Lennon, and a burning bush could all be mentioned in a news story, giving credit to John Kerry. Remotely.)
