Senator Frist, you seem to relish a press conference in which you get to rant and rave about what Democrats have done to a mere 5% of Bush's judicial nominees. "It's not fair," "elections have consequences," and other slogans are quite popular.
Yes Mr Frist, elections do have consequences, but those consequences go both ways. One of the consequences of you winning is that now you have to live with an opposition minority that has no intention of losing the rights Republicans enjoyed when your party sir, was in the minority. Strangely, all of a sudden, all of a sudden those rights should be repealed. Yes sir, elections do have consequences, this is one of them. Swallow your pride and deal with it.
But, all is not lost. I have a solution. Senator, you preach about fairness, about how god awful it is that fine, qualified judges are being held up even though they'd be confirmed? Well sir, I agree 100%. You and I disagree on what constitutes a fine judge. So, we will give votes to all of President Bush's nominations. That's fine. Here's the catch. You will FIRST hold hearings and then confirmation votes on all 60+ Clinton nominees that you and your colleagues shamefully blocked through both filibusters and other manuevers. We'll use your standard for deciding who goes first (after all, you are the majority leader). I believe the time of the nomination was the factor there, correct? Hence why Priscilla Owen would be first? Well, I think this solves that little problem.
Senator, you have opened my heart to fairness and justice. I am committed to fighting tyranny by my elected leaders. I am proud of myself. I have found the solution that I know you care so much about finding. This will solve the judicial crisis that you claim exists in this country. This will end the ridiculous blocking of "well qualified" nominees to our courts. I was concerned sir that you would not read my letter. But what was I thinking. You sir, the majority leader of the US Senate, surely you would not place personal presidential ambitions ahead of the needs of the country you claim to love so much. I am ashamed at ever thinking such a thought. I am sure now that you will move to have these men and women renominated and save our courts from a crisis that you say exists. Thank you Senator for your patriotism. It really says a mouthful.
Sincerely,
........
I hope the bastard reads this. I really do. For my solution I think does solve the problem. We fill the nominations with Clinton's appointees, then the vacancies are no longer there. Owen, Brown, Myers, the Michigan judges and more will not have seats to be confirmed for. And yet, it's totally fair. I hope Senator Frist reads the letter. He truly is a pathetic majority leader.
I know what some are thinking. "Well, they'll just vote NO on Clinton's nominees." No doubt some will. But there are several Senators who are on record praising those nominations and/or CLinton for the centrist judges he nominated (with a few exceptions of course). At the very least, it exposes the flip floppers. At the very best, we have our courts full, Bush can be pissy, and Frist can cry as the Presidential nomination goes to someone else. Ah life would be sweet.
