John Warner sentences troops to death

Tue Sep 18, 2007 at 06:37:36 PM PDT

Senator John Warner told the Wall Street Journal today that he's "reconsidering his position" (read: "flip flopping") on the Webb amendment.

Why?

[T]he senator said he is "reconsidering his position" in light of the administration's willingness to move closer to him on expediting some reduction in U.S. troop levels this year in Iraq. "It took a lot of convincing to make the first units come home before Christmas," Mr. Warner said. "There is a lot of importance in that."

Man, it's just got to be seeping out of this guy's ears at this point, because those troops were coming home anyway:

But the 13th MEU, a support unit that has been in Iraq on its current tour for about three months, was already scheduled to return home from Iraq on Nov. 17. Their new date of arrival under the drawdown plan? Still Nov. 17.

Senator John Warner is buying his own bullshit, and hundreds of American troops are going to die for his foolishness.

UPDATE: How feckless is Warner? See for yourself:

"I certainly support the concept he brings," Warner said of Webb’s proposal. "But I am in the reconsidering posture."

The troops, of course, will be in the "dead" posture, which is considerably less comfortable.

The families will be thinking of you and your posture at the burials, Senator.
