I talked to a lawyer today who volunteered for the Kerry campaign in New Mexico, not as a lawyer but to walk precincts and do whatever one could (the lawyer hailed from a definitive blue state). This person has a very responsible position with a non-profit. He reported that he heard that people who would agree to vote for Republicans who weren't going to make it to the polls were offered $1500 to vote. Sounds like a lot of money. What the lawyer said was odd was that everyone who reported this cited the same amount--$1500. I assume that even if this were true, the person would have to vote more than just for one person. Has anyone else heard such rumors?
Is there anyway to contact other New Mexico volunteers to determine if this has any credibility?
