Or to be more precise given the current compostion of the Congress and the governors ,we will be seeing more women running for presiden. At least on the democratic side, and no I'm not referring specifically to Sen. Clinton
Its simple statistics....
of 48 Dem. Senators 10 are women 20.8%
of 51 Rep. Senator 3 are women 5.8%
remaining is a male independent.
of 205 Dem Reps 43 are women 20.9%
of 229 Rep Reps 18 are women 7.8%
remaining is a male independent.
of 22 Dem Govs 5 are women 22.7%
of 28 Rep Govs 3 are women 10.7%
Approx a fifth of the democratic elected officials are women . given that I think it extremely like that in the next decade or 2 we will see more women running in the Dem presidential primaries.
well that's my pearl of wisdom. What got me started on this was the realization that (at least to me)women have become very visible as spokesmen for the Dem party,
During the California recall I heard as much about Sen Feinstein and Rep Sanchez as I did about Gov Davis and Lt Gov Bustamante.
think about Granholm and Shaheen representing Kerry.
Napolitano in Arizona, Landrieu and Blanco in Lousiana, Lincoln in Ark .can u say swing state? can u say VP?
and of course Pelosi in the House and of course Clinton in the Senate.
Conclusion of this meandering diary is that as the Dems have a much higher proportion of women that Repubs , I think the next decade or 2 will see some of these decide to test the waters.....If not as Pres then as Veep.
wonder how the R's will deal with that?
