Just idly thinking about the shame of it all... at a time when the world (and nation) really needs more cooperation and unity, religious divides cripple our ability to address problems that really matter. We are more concerned with abortion, Janet Jackson's tit and who has the right to marry than we are with declining fish stocks, global warming and sustainable economies...
And why?
Jesus loved the the meek... the prostitute - the adultress - the thief on the cross next to him...
Jesus condemned the rich... the money changers...
On the other hand, today's Christians seem all too ready to persecute the weak while leaving the moneychangers alone - if not providing outright support to them.
What woman wants to have an abortion? Who, given the choice, would have chosen to be born gay? Why must these people be condemned?
RJ Reynolds and Phillip Morris, meanwhile, redouble their efforts at overseas cigarrete sales to children. Coors Brewing Company and Anheisur Busch target adolescents here in the US.
Now, it's just a fact that cigs and alcohol have taken more lives than abortion. Why isn't Operation Rescue picketing gas stations and convenience stores - the cig. merchants? These people perpetuate death for profit. Isn't that at least as morally corrupt and anti-Christian as any of the "Culture War" causi belli?
