In a key triumph in the right wing assault on the press,
Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Hiltzik's blog was suspended over allegations of ethical breaches by Hiltzik posting pseudonymously in threads.
The Times has suspended Michael Hiltzik's Golden State blog on latimes.com. Hiltzik admitted Thursday that he posted items on the paper's website, and on other websites, under names other than his own. That is a violation of The Times ethics guidelines, which requires editors and reporters to identify themselves when dealing with the public. The policy applies to both the print and online editions of the newspaper. The Times is investigating the postings.
The big guns need to weigh in on this one.
This stems from
Hiltzik posting in threads at wing nut Patterico's blog ("Patterico" is the pseudonym for LA prosecutor Patrick Frey). When Frey matched IP addresses for Hiltzik and his pseudonym, the ragegasm was almost like the days of kerning.
This strikes me as a major event in Internet freedom, and the Right using any weapon available to silence a critic.
