here is the latest information about the Federal Marriage Amendment. as you recalled it failed on a technical vote in the Senate in July. this will not happen in the House, there will be a full vote on the floor.
the vote has not been set in stone yet as far as a date. CW says it will probably happen during the week of the 27th (this month). right now there are about 187 members who are solidly against passage and 193 who will vote for it. that leaves 54 members leaning to one side or the other (there is one empty seat right now). it is a huge number of targets and it is a moving target shifting every hour. as it gets closer hopefully i will have some better targets for people to focus their efforts on. for now make sure you contact your own House member. they need to hear from their constituents.
HRC and its coalition partners starting to ramp up their lobbying efforts, getting their members to contact their legislators. we have a phone banking session going on tonight 6-9pm in our Equality Forum in headquarters 17th and RI in DC. come on by if you are in the area, there will be food and some important work to get done. there will be more opportunities to get involved in the next several weeks.
