A friend of mine was just telling me about how he had dinner at his girlfriend's house, and her cousin had just got back from Iraq. Then (his family owns a heating company) he said that there's going to be a lot of very very cold people this winter thanks to Bush.
Part I: The Cousin...
Basically, the commander of the cousin's unit sent out a 150-person ATC unit to rescue 36 trapped soldiers pinned down by the "enemy". The 150-man unit his cousin was in lost 10 people, even though they were able to save 36. He said of that "These are thie things people don't grasp when they put the Bush/Cheney signs in their front yard."
My friend then went on to say that his family had strong Republican roots, and how his dad loves Ronald Reagan, which led to...
PART II: Very Cold People
He said that his father is seeing all the competition go under (and one of the largest heating companies in the Philly area just went belly-up). There's even word that the small heating/energy companies are going to "stop competing", anti-trust laws be damned, because otherwise, they will all go under.
The right's economic theories are wrong if energy retailers are considering stopping competition - this is a real problem. Last year, heating oil prices were about $1.30/gallon. This year, the price is over $2.00/gallon, and they can't run credit lines of over $300.00.
They have people who they have served for over forty (40) years saying that they can't afford to pay for the heat - they have to choose between food, medicine, and energy, and THEY CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE ALL THREE THIS WINTER!
His father is telling the customers to blame Shrubby and vote Kerry, and he even told off one of the oil companies by saying "I'm telling every one of my customers to vote for Kerry, you heartless bastards."
This is heartbreaking...
