I just edited the title...didn't think it really fit the diary anymore.
Okay, this is weird. I read this story mostly because my family is Finnish. I see anything that is Scandic or Finno-augric and I'm all over it.
So, there I am troll Yahoo for more news while writing a loan analysis.
I've been terribly disappointed in the US response and our lack of understanding of the magnitude of the crisis.
But the Swedes get it. Their leader went to a movie and they're pissed.
So, that has me thinking about my country's disconnect.
We have a guy who sat and read a kids book, eyes darting about the room in panic.
And he gets elected?
Unreal.
On the Swede's watch a few hundred are so far confirmed dead with more than 2000 right now missing. And this wasn't an issue where Sweden didn't respond to an attack on their country, it's an event that occurred thousands of miles away but had far reaching implications for their citizens.
I wonder now how they would have behaved if their leaders had sat back and did nothing after being warned a horrible event was likely to occur.
I know now that Dems and Rethugs really boils down to a pretty simplistic view of the world...
Liberals (including Dems) believe that we (including Swedes) can do better.
Conservatives (including Rethugs) believe it's not our responsibility.
In the end, Hillary Clinton was absolutely right, it takes a village.
As the world comes to grips with this hell that it now sees rising form Southeast Asia, I offer my thoughts and condolences. I live in a global village. Their pain is my pain. I need to do more.
