This week saw possibly the worst campaign scenario play out for the Dean camp. They took (a firm) second in a primary that just a month ago everyone thought they'd run away with. Their campaign's top guru resigned. They announced that they'd burned through a lot of their money in an attempt to win big early. And, they had no plan B. They announced that they aren't going to contest the mini-super-Tuesday primaries.
Yet, somehow in that exact same time span, they gained another $1.25 million in contributions. And true to form, not a dime of it was from special interests.
So, what is going on here? Is it the message of the candidate? Is it inertia? Is it group insanity?
Most importantly, can it be harnessed to ensure an ABB '05 Whitehouse?
Full disclosure: I'm a Dean/Clark/Edwards/Kerry kinda guy.
