Or: Why Democrats Never Accomplish Anything
Or: Why Progressives Will Always Lose
Or: What the Hell Happened to Trust
Personally, I'm about to give up on the whole online blogging thing. This is a local election year and there are a number of interesting local races, so I might just leave the online community and rejoin the real-world community.
Sometime back, I ran a Bake Sale here at Daily Kos. Some posters were thrilled, others were cool, but 132 people participated.
Participation meant voting on a candidate. Whichever candidate won the most votes, got donations from every voter. You can read the original post for more, but the gist was that Republicans will put aside their differences and focus together. Eventually, it will be their turn and they will have the entire Republican Party at their back. Democrats splinter into factions - environment, choice, poverty, education, cheese. Whatever. This was a chance for people to show that Democrats could do what Republicans do - we could get behind a candidate (even if not our own) in order to do some good.
There were lots of updates about what could be done better next time, the first Bake Sale certainly had some bugs in the brownies. But, all in all I was impressed at 132 people signed up. Then came time to pay up on our pledges.
3 PEOPLE That is how many people lived up to their pledges. Three pledges for $20.06 for a grand total of $60.18, which leaves us with 129 that did not live up to their bargain - disgusting!
So, that is what is driving me OFF of the national scene and onto the local scene. We have a great county-wide blog here in Orange County, NC, so perhaps it is time to focus on local politics for me.
If your reading this, and you voted but didn't pay, and the guilt is rising like the barbecue sauce from a midnight snack, Here is the link to make your pledge.
